The “Olympic Hospital” project includes:
- Minor Injuries Area (Low Priority Codes) within the Emergency Department, dedicated to non-urgent healthcare needs (so-called green and white codes). This area is separated from the main Emergency Department and staffed by dedicated personnel for patients requiring low or very low complexity care. This configuration allows minor cases and inappropriate accesses to be managed efficiently without impacting critical emergencies, ensuring rapid response times for all patient categories;
- Olympic Ward, consisting of inpatient rooms equipped with systems suitable for providing semi-intensive care to patients, including critical cases that do not require highly specialized intensive care units;
- Olympic Operations Center, responsible for continuously monitoring resource availability in relation to patient volume and case types, anticipating and verifying the full implementation of care pathways, and overseeing real-time healthcare response efficiency. It also manages all telemedicine activities, including specialist teleconsultations provided by Niguarda staff to support Olympic polyclinics, emergency departments of other hospitals, and hospital wards, as well as post-discharge teleconsultation visits for patients treated in Olympic healthcare facilities.
Working within the Niguarda site presents particular complexity, as new interventions must be carefully integrated not only with the continuity of healthcare services but also with an architectural system of significant historical and documentary value. As such, all design choices must comply with specific guidelines issued by the Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape Superintendency, ensuring consistency with the existing context.
