The project for the Nuclear Medicine centre at the Basra Children's Hospital was born from the need to expand and complete the technological equipment of the healthcare facility, where modern radiodiagnostic equipment, radiotherapy equipment with a linear accelerator and a Gamma Knife are already operational.
The main building of the new Nuclear Medicine centre includes the reception and admission areas for outpatients, the 'cold' and 'hot' areas (strictly separated) for the safe management of patients and the handling of tracers by operators, a medical and training area, the radiopharmacy and the cyclotron for the production of radiopharmaceuticals, and the clinical engineering sector.

Characteristics
The necessary technological and medical gas stations, as well as the radioactive waste storage room, are located outside the hospital.
The project, developed together with scientific partners of internationally-recognized prestige such as Ospedale Niguarda and IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele in Milan, aimed to provide citizens with a state-of-the-art facility, especially in the field of diagnostics related to oncological and cardiac pathologies.
The construction of the cyclotron bunker and the radiopharmacy will make it possible to produce and handle radiotracers on site both for internal use and their distribution to facilities in other cities and around the region, thus confirming the BCCH's role as an important reference hub for the area.
