About us

InAR - Ingegneria Architettura is a leading engineering and consulting firm in the field of healthcare and social care design boasting over 60 years of tradition and experience. Our projects and buildings demonstrate our well-established international presence with interventions in Italy, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.The high added value of our advanced healthcare projects has made us a leading partner in the field of public and private healthcare facilities.

Our history

Healthcare has been the focus of our activity for more than 60 years. Throughout these decades, we have honed our skills to design buildings which are able to face the continuous evolution resulting from demographic, epidemiological and technological changes, creating welcoming spaces for patients, families and healthcare personnel. We believe that a project, in addition to guaranteeing engineering efficiency and medical efficacy by devising physical and spatial solutions for the organisational programme specific to each therapeutic path, must take into account issues which were not considered in the past but are today of the greatest importance:

– the impact on and the relationship with the urban and territorial fabric;
the comfort and quality of indoor spaces (“customised”, ergonomic rooms);
the relationship with green spaces as key elements for the healing process (biophilic design);
– the attention paid to the characteristics of building envelope, construction technologies and systems in accordance with criteria of energy efficiency and sustainable development.

Our challenge is to play an active role in the important transformations taking place, to be able to grasp the change and know how to interpret it and, above all, to be able to translate it into tangible solutions.

Architect Giovanni Li Calzi, General manager of InAR - Ingegneria e Architettura

Founders

Prof. Arch. Epifanio Li Calzi

Epifanio graduated in Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano and embarked on his university career first as an assistant without tenure, then as a tenured assistant and finally, in 1980, as a professor of Architectural Composition. A pupil of E. N. Rogers, he edited editorials on architecture for Einaudi publisher and wrote for the most renowned architecture periodicals. He immediately applied himself to the study of hospital architecture, publishing articles and projects in specialised periodicals.
For years he applied himself to teaching and to the morphological and typological study for the design of new hospitals. His best-known published work is the volume on the history of hospitals "Per una Storia dell'Architettura Ospedaliera" published by Clup.
As part of the professional activity of Studio Li Calzi, he took part in countless design competitions and projects on a national and international scale: the Lecco hospital, Ospedale Destra Secchia, Ospedale Sacco, Ospedale Niguarda, the Cardiology Centre in Tripoli, the Bucharest Hospital complex, the redevelopment of Policlinico di Milano and Spedali Civili in Brescia.
In 2012, at the end of his university career, he founded InAR, a specialised architecture and engineering firm.
